Today is a new day and I am so pumped! My kids are in school and I have the house ALL to myself. I thought that I would get it together and work. I miss blogging, it has been way too long. My desire is to blog twice a week and hit up cyber space with some ill designs and ideas.

If you lookie up to the right you will see one of my latest creations called Astronauts Bliss. I call it this because I actually have a pendant on the bottom left of the necklace with 3 Astronauts sitting in the cockpit of a their spaceshuttle. The diamonds, gold and rocks remind me of outer space.

The other necklace is called Hippie Chicks Bling, well, it totally speaks for itself.

These pieces were done with Vintaj wire (love this stuff) and some found vintage crystals, pendants, beads and all that other pretty stuff you see. We'll time to play catch up and get back to work.

Today you will see a string of blogs because I have been slackin for way too long!

Candy Purse: An Artist in Texas

I'm telling you. There's lots of stuff still made here in the USA, and among them are handmade accessories.

If you don't subscribe to Handbag Designer 101, then do! It's an update of the latest handbag artisans.
I was browsing through the daily reports, and this line popped out at me. Call it Joan Jett meets Cher.
Candy Purse by Candace Marquette is a line of handmade jewelery and purses. Her designer bags are painted, tattoed, and sewn. Not only do her hand bags exist on some cutting edge of fashion, they radiate the good spirit of their maker. Self described as a "punk rocker chic swagger" aesthetic (anyone who has gone to fashion week knows exactly what she's talking about), each are crafted of leather and adorned with her own jewelery.

Candace also has a great blog called Rejuvination Nation.
Price range: $50 - $350. At this point, why bother with retailers when you can have your own one-of-a-kind?

I have had a really hard time keeping my blog new and fresh... not so much content matter, but keeping it updated. It just might be that I have a little fear of commitment? Well, no that's not it because I have been married for 10 beautiful years. I have 3 small kids Bay Bell and Jo (she's a spunky girl). So I kinda did a little soul searching. I came to realize my fears. What if no one wants to hear what I have to say. What if I find out that I am boring and really just plain nuts.
These thoughts and trials and seem so frivilous and pointless. But when confronted with them in the dark an ominous spark happens. You see our brilliance in creativity has life. It adds light to the darkness. To open my life and my heart is to open a hopeful sea of possiblitlies and beauty. There is a beautiful motion and wonderful pure energy that fuels me from day to day. Some might not want to admit that it might be God, but I know that it is. My fuel comes from my faith and that faith is a crushing beacon to the dark. So kindly turn away from this and say well, she is nuts, if you must. If you must turn away, please turn away with a smile and go forth in your life. But if you must and shall not turn away for this moment, let an ember of hope and beauty fuel you today and forever more.

I found this really cool magazine called Mixtapezine out of Melbourne, Australia.
They are looking for crafty writers for their new issue. I was so excited to write to them
and let them know that I would love to write for them. They responded back and gave me submissions guidelines. Here is a quote from their bio describing who they are "mixtape is a craft maga(ZINE) about making time for the small things!mixtape is a collision of craft, eco-cool and pop culture kitsch". When you write for them they give you permission to post their "I write for mixtape" logo. I went ahead and posted mine so that I can get motivated and write for them.

Hey again, I know that I just posted but I have another idea.
I want to make a blogging journal of all of my crafty creations and share it with the cyber world. I want to make a project every day for one month. Then if I keep to that I will bump it up to 2 month and so on and so on.
Here's another shameless plug.. ok wait, no it is not shameless.
There IS no shame that is associated to something that I am proud of.
So I am going to forever change that phrase to Proud Plug, or Gifted Anouncement, or Cool uh, well. Ok here is antother shamless plug of my book.

Martha Martha Martha

There has been a little talk around (ok was a little talk) my publisher office that the Martha Stewart Show contacted them and wanted to have me on as an author. When I heard the news, I was like cool. No I wasn't! I was crying and jumping and screaming with excitement!
I felt as if my dreams were about to really start coming true. Ok, yeah, I wrote a book called "Craft Candy", I am very proud of it. But we never got confirmation and this was about 6 months ago. So here I am anxiously waiting for the call.
Instead of waiting for her to call, I thought that I might give her a little push. I have a cool marketing plan/strategy that I know will work. Now, all I have to do it get in motion and just pray that it WILL happen. I will keep you posted and let you know.
Psst.... if anybody knows anybody that knows someone that knows someone that knows her and think my book is cool and crafty, please holla!

Too little too late?

My confidence was shot a while back when I discoed that another designer got chosen to create a line with a company that I have a great relationship with. I was sick to my stomach, I was so upset and just wanted to call it quits. But then I realized that all was not lost.
What I found is that I can do the very same thing or even better that that designer (she really is a sweet person, and I like her). But putting all feelings aside, "It's business nothing personal"
I decided to study her. I went to her website, saw all of the press and just saw what made her "her". I had an Epiphany... Candace, you CAN do this. So I have decide to restructure my approach and my company. I got an account with Twitter, I am reading on the future of marketing, and changing my style a bit to a more modern feel. I also decided that I am going to stop depending on companies to get me where I want to be and go there myself.
I discovered something about myself, I can't wait for my dreams to just knock down my door, I have to knock down the door of my dreams and make it come to fruition. Stay tuned....

Candle Jar Becomes New Friend To Basil

My husband bought me these really cool and artsy looking candles at Pier 1 and I could not bring myself to throw them away. So I decied to see how I could salvage these. I love fresh herbs and enjoy bringing in plants and foliage into my kitchen. See, I love to cook and I have quite a few fans... ok, my husband and my kids, but they count too! Here are some simple directions to prepare your candle jar to become a friend to your fresh herbs.

What you'll need:

stove

empty candle jar

spoon

oven mit

paper towels

potted plant of herbs

1) Heat stove to a low setting and place jar ontop of coils until you see the wax melt

2) With oven mit, hold glass (I think I get a duh, for this one) gently scrape away wax and metal disk from inside glass with spoon.

3) Wipe away excess wax with napkins.

4) Let cool

5) Take potted herbs and gently pull up soil from the plastic container.

6) Re-pot herbs inside of the cool candle glass.

Yay, you did it! Now go enjoy your the rest of your day and find a way to use your hebs for a delicious and tasty meal!

This piece is called "Lady of Whilom". It means lady of the past.
Here is a lil' taste of what she blogged about me... Yea!!

Candace Marquette mixes past and present in her designs. In her newest collection she uses vintage parts and a beautiful pendant of a woman from the 1900's. The bracelet is called Lady of Whilom which means 'woman of the past" In her own words Candace says that ,"each piece tells a story and draws a strange wonder to the person viewing a piece. Another inspiring aspect of her work is how she has photographed it- it is unique, and a powerful way to express herself as an artist connected to her designs.

I met this cool chick Anne Rush at http://www.annerush.com/ This woman is a jewelry designer at Miriam Haskell Jewels in New York City, directing the Jennifer Lopez fashion jewelry line and Private label brands.. She is working on a line for J-Lo. How cool is that!

Candle Holder Becomes Jewelry Collector

Ladies, there are so many endless ways to diplay your jewelry.

I found a pretty cheap and so chic way to do just that. I bought this beautiful stone carved

candle holder at Target last week. I thought that it looked a little lonely.

So I decided to use it to show off my one-of-a-kind jewelry.

I placed a backdrop to give it gallery appeal. Me likey a lotty!
